‘The most important thing for me is always to try to make life more interesting for my audience. To challenge them and challenge the singers in as many different ways as possible. I am looking for the greatest possible perfection in the interpretation and execution of the music. New music in particular calls for reserves of energy and sympathetic insight. One has to be so familiar with the music that it does not seem as if one has to tussle with it.’
- Marcus Creed, conductor
It is the modern, advanced works that often turn out to be the highlights of his concerts. If the execution is of a high enough quality, even the most complex modernism opens up a treasure trove of intense musical experiences for every listening audience. Since 2011, Marcus Creed and DR VokalEnsemblet (The Danish National Vocal Ensemble) have developed a collaboration that focuses on a number of major works of European choral literature, including works by Luigi Nono and Gyorgy Ligeti from the 20th century. From 2014, Creed is the chief conductor of DR VokalEnsemblet.
